Turnaround times

The quoted turnaround time is from sample receipt in the laboratory, to results authorisation in the Laboratory Information Management system. The times do not include transport of specimen to the laboratory or the administrative process to print and post/email reports. Service users must allow for transport and reporting time when ordering tests.

Clinical background:

To investigate lysosomal acid lipase deficiency (LAL-D).

Specimen container paediatric:

Whole blood EDTA, spotted onto guthrie card or special card provided, or pre-spotted blood spot card.

Specimen container adult:

Whole blood EDTA, spotted onto guthrie card or special card provided, or pre-spotted blood spot card.

Minimum volume paediatric:

1 mL

Minimum volume adult:

1 mL

Sample stability:

Room temperature if sending same/next day.
Otherwise store refrigerated.

Transport requirements:

First class post

Reference ranges:

0.37 – 2.3 nmol/punch/hour
