Special Blood Sciences

The Special Blood Sciences laboratory is based at the Freeman hospital site and provides important diagnostic testing for various clinical disciplines, including transplantation, neuro-oncology, and gastroenterology.

The Special Blood Sciences section uses a number of manual assay techniques, including HPLC, LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS. The Special Blood Sciences team provides an ever-expanding service for a diverse range of specialist tests and also operates a busy program of assay and method development. The services provided support the diagnosis and monitoring of patients in clinical areas such as transplantation, endocrinology and nutrition. The laboratory service is supported through close relationships with many specialist clinical teams in Newcastle Hospitals such as the transplantation teams, endocrinology and gastroenterology.
